Use your Momo Jord Hammock safely
Here’s everything you need to know to hang safely and for years to come. Read through it before you hang for the first time — after that it’s simple.
Before every use
Quickly check over the hammock, the daisy chain straps and the carabiners. No fabric damage, no worn seams, no cracks in the carabiners, no frayed webbing straps. If anything is damaged — don’t use it. Get in touch with us.
Maximum load: 200 kg
That applies to the hammock with its standard straps and suspension. Don’t exceed it. The hammock is tested with a good margin, but the maximum load is there for a reason.
The hammock is designed for one person. Two adults can’t hang in it at the same time even if the combined weight stays under 200 kg — the shape and the suspension are made for one body.
Choose the right tree
Use living, healthy trees with a trunk diameter of at least 15 cm at the attachment height. Avoid:
- Dead or dying trees
- Trees with visible cracks, rot or fungal damage
- Young, slender trees that bend under the load
- Trees with roots showing above the ground (unstable)
The daisy chain straps spread the load and protect the bark — always use them, never rope directly against the trunk.
Hanging height
Don’t hang higher than you’re prepared to fall. A good rule of thumb: the lowest point of the hammock (where you sit down) should be at hip to knee height above the ground. That’s enough for comfortable getting in and out, a soft landing if anything were to happen, and the best lying height.
Don’t hang over
- Water you can’t stand up in
- Cliffs, drop-offs or slopes
- Fires, stoves or grills
- Rocky or root-covered ground where a fall could cause injury
- Roads, paths or areas where other people move about
Children
Children under 8 should always have an adult nearby when using it. The hammock is not a cot — don’t fall asleep with an infant in the hammock.
In strong wind or thunderstorms
Don’t hang in exposed spots in strong wind — trees can drop branches. In a thunderstorm, get out of the forest. A hammock in a tree is not a good place to be during lightning.
Care
Shake off dirt after every trip. When needed: hand wash in lukewarm water with mild soap, hang it up to dry in the shade. No washing machine, no tumble dryer, no bleach. Store it dry in the bag it came with.
