Use your Momo Jord Large Tarp safely
The tarp is simple — but a loose guy line in strong wind or a stake in the eye can ruin the whole trip. Here’s what you need to keep in mind.
Before every use
Quickly check over the tarp, guy lines, line tensioners, stakes and carabiners. No tears, no frayed lines, no bent or cracked stakes. If anything is damaged — don’t use it. Get in touch with us.
Set it up properly
- Tension the lines evenly so the tarp sits flat without creases — slack lines flap in the wind and wear out the fabric.
- The stakes should sit in the ground angled away from the line, all the way down.
- Use the reflective threads in the guy lines — position them so no one runs into them in the dark.
- In strong wind: tie a short bungee cord between the stake and the guy line. It adds flex so no stake snaps and no fabric tears.
Stakes — keep an eye on them
Y-shaped aluminium stakes drive well into most ground, but:
- Don’t hammer stakes against rock — they bend.
- Mark stakes with strips of fabric if anyone might trip over them.
- Set the lines so they’re not at eye level. The reflectors help, but a taut line in the face is never fun.
Wind and storms
The tarp handles a Swedish autumn blow without trouble. In storms above 20 m/s — take it down, or pitch it low and close to the ground with extra lines. Set the long side facing the wind.
Don’t hang it over fire
The tarp is waterproof — not fireproof. A stove, fire or disposable grill under the tarp melts the material and gives off thick smoke. Keep at least 3 m away from open flames.
In a thunderstorm
A taut line strung between trees with a metal rig isn’t your best friend in a thunderstorm. Take it down and move away if lightning rolls in.
Care
Wipe off dirt with a soft cloth. If needed: hand-wash in lukewarm water with mild soap, then hang to dry in the shade. Wait until it’s completely dry before packing it away — otherwise the fabric can mildew. No washing machine, no tumble dryer, no bleach.
