Care for your Momo Jord Underquilt
An underquilt isn’t safety-critical the way the hammock or the suspension is, but it should last for many years — and the fill thanks you for the right care.
Before every use
Shake the down so it fluffs up. Check the shell — tears, leaking down, worn seams — so you catch small problems before they grow.
Hang it correctly
The underquilt should sit against the underside of the hammock with no air gap. If it hangs loose, an air pocket forms and chills you — that’s not a fault with the underquilt.
- Tighten the inner shock cords so the underquilt forms a cocoon around the hammock.
- Clip the carabiners into the hammock’s suspension loop, one on each side.
- Adjust the tension until the underquilt sits snug. Not pulled tight — just contact.
- Use the metal hooks in the hammock’s D-rings for extra stability if it’s windy.
Store the down right
Down is a living material — it wants air.
- Store it loosely in the large storage sack provided, not in the small stuff sack.
- Hanging on a coat hanger is even better if you have the space.
- Between trips: leave the underquilt on the hammock and pack everything in a Bishop Bag — that way you avoid needlessly compressing the down.
Long-term storage in the small stuff sack loses the down’s loft permanently.
Washing — rarely, gently
- Shake off dirt after every trip.
- When needed: hand-wash in lukewarm water with down-specific detergent. Ordinary detergent damages the down’s natural oils.
- Rinse thoroughly — detergent residue weighs the down down.
- Tumble dry on low heat with a few tennis balls — it’s the only way to get the down fluffy again. Air-drying takes days and the down can mildew in the meantime.
No bleach, no fabric softener. Send it to a professional down cleaner if you’re unsure.
